The Nevada Athletic Commission took an important step this Friday (15) in its fight to monitor and punish athletes involved in doping cases in MMA. At a meeting held in Las Vegas (USA), the organization defined a new policy to combat banned substances, announcing severe suspensions for athletes involved in controversies.

It was decided, for example, that an athlete caught using steroids for the first time will receive a three-year punishment, in addition to giving a significant percentage of his scholarship to his opponent. When caught for the third time using anabolic steroids, he would be banned from the sport.

The new policy also provides for severe punishments for athletes who use stimulants, diuretics, sedatives, muscle relaxants, sleeping pills, anxiolytics and marijuana. Furthermore, the athletes would have a defeat on their records in the fights in which they were caught, contrary to what is seen today, when the result is reversed. no-contest.

However, the Commission explained that punishments will still be assessed on a case-by-case basis, and the terms disclosed will not necessarily be followed to the letter.

The terms will also not affect doping cases already publicized, such as, for example, that of Anderson Silva. The new policy will only come into force on September 1st.
