The release of the details of Reebok's sponsorship deal with the UFC caused controversy and controversy in the MMA world. Many expressed their dissatisfaction with the amounts that will be passed on to the fighters, with amounts per fight ranging from US$2,5 to US$40. However, Chael Sonnen showed understanding of the policy adopted and stated that the money invested in the agreement is being passed on to the athletes.

“The Reebok deal is a socialist approach to sponsorship. I left the sport shortly before the deal was made, so I don't have any inside knowledge. I just read about it and saw the numbers. The money will still be distributed, it will not end up under Dana White's mattress, contrary to what many people think. They are passing this money on to the athletes. They need to follow some kind of formula and they thought of a suggestion, but you can't please everyone”, said the former fighter, in an interview with the podcast “The Three Amigos”.
