Ronaldo Jacare already chosen the side of Vitor belfort in the middleweight title fight against Chris Weidman, scheduled for May 23, in the main fight of UFC 187. Jacaré's choice, however, was not motivated by patriotism towards his countryman. In an interview, the current second-ranked player in the under-84 kg division said that he is waiting for Belfort to win and then face him in a superfight in Brazil.

“I believe it will be a tough fight for Belfort. O Chris Weidman It's new, it has a lot of strength, it's very big, and Belfort has always had problems fighting wrestlers, but I'm rooting for Leão, I believe he will surprise and bring this title to Brazil. If he brings it, it will be me and him in Brazil. The best of all is that the title will stay in Brazil and with me”, said the Espírito Santo, in an interview with the website of the “Combate” channel.

If in recent statements, Luke Rockhold, executioner of Lyoto Machida last weekend, defended his place as next challenger, Jacaré also tried to apply for the position and campaigned to stay ahead of the North American in the race for the title. “I will definitely be next. Luke has already lost in the UFC, I come from five wins against tough guys, Lyoto already had his chance and now he lost to Rockhold and when Rockhold fought me, he lost. The judge who fought for him. I certainly deserve it more than anyone else, I come from five victories, I was champion of another event and, without a shadow of a doubt, I will be next. I got the best performances and I deserve to have the chance to fight for the title”, he assured.

At 35, Ronaldo Jacare He has a professional record of 22 wins, three losses and one unsuccessful fight. The athlete from X-Gym comes from five consecutive victories in the octagon and has not lost since fighting for the middleweight belt of the now defunct Strikeforce in September 2011, when he ended up being defeated precisely by Luke Rockhold, in a decision by the judges that is questioned to this day.
