Rockhold defends title shot: 'I'm the best in the world and I've already beaten Jacaré'

The North American also took the opportunity to talk about the upcoming title fight, between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort, and spared no criticism of the Brazilian

Since they won, respectively, Lyoto Machida and Chris Camozzi at UFC on FOX 15, held last Saturday (18), Luke Rockhold e Ronaldo Jacare they started a private war for the position of next challenger for the middleweight belt. With an eye on a duel for the title, Rockhold took the opportunity to defend his “candidacy” and used his triumph over Jacaré when they were playing for the now-defunct Strikeforce to reinforce his status.

“I defeated everyone else in ways they hadn't been defeated. I believe I'm the guy for the job. I'm the best middleweight in the world. That's why I deserve the title. I like Jacaré, he's a cool guy, but I think I proved myself. I beat tougher guys. I defeated Lyoto Machida. I dominated him, I destroyed him. Jacaré's biggest victory was against who, Mousasi? My opponents' level is higher. My performances speak louder. And I already beat Jacaré, so I have a good case to justify my chance”, said the North American, in an interview with the “Combate” channel.

If he gets the challenger spot, Rockhold would face the winner of the fight between Chris Weidman e Vitor belfort, who duel on May 23rd. For the North American, however, Vitor, who already beat him by knockout in 2013, will be no match for the current champion. “Vitor, I don't know, does well against big wrestlers and I don't think you'll see the usual Vitor. If he wins, I would love a rematch, but I don't think he will win and I don't want him to win. I don't like Vitor. I don't wish anything for him, because he's a cheater. He was a cheat all his life. I don't know how anyone respects him. I don’t like cheaters,” he snapped.

At 30, Luke Rockhold has a professional record of 14 wins and two losses. Former champion of the extinct Strikeforce, Rockhold debuted in Ultimate with a defeat to Vitor belfort, by knockout after a spectacular high kick in the first edition of UFC Jaraguá, but since then he has won four consecutive victories, over Costas Philippou, Tim Boetsch, Michael Bisping e Lyoto Machida.
