During the third episode of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 4, shown in the early hours of last Sunday (19), aired the moment in which Anderson Silva receives the long-awaited news of his doping. During the scene, in which he talks on the phone with his manager Ed Soares and later with physical trainer Rogério Camões, Spider denies using illegal substances Drostanolone e Androsterone, but admits to having taken injections of the anti-inflammatory “Dexalgen”. At first, it was thought that the use of the medication could be related to the fighter's positive test, but the relationship has been completely ruled out.

The person who guarantees this is pharmacist Maria Eline Matheus, who, in an interview with the website of the “ESPN Brasil” channel, explained that the composition of “Dexalgen” is similar to the substances that Spider was caught in the exam, but that it is not nor can it transform into them.

“Dexalgen is classified as a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (AIES) because it contains the substance Dexamethasone, which belongs to the corticosteroid family, more specifically, glucocorticoids, which, in fact, have an anti-inflammatory effect. In addition to this, the medicine also contains vitamin B12, extremely important as a biochemical 'fuel', and dipyrone, an excellent antipyretic-analgesic, but devoid of anti-inflammatory effect”, said Marie Eline. “The substances Drostanolone e Androsterone They are anabolic steroids, that is, they have a steroidal molecular structure similar to Dexamethasone. But the dexamethasone molecule does not transform into Drostanolone and Androsterone“, He completed.

For this reason, the tendency is for the defense strategy to Anderson Silva focus on accidental contamination through supplements or other substances that the fighter may have ingested during his preparation for UFC 183, as Spider himself suggested in some of the rare times he spoke publicly after the scandal. Anderson's trial, which has been temporarily suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission, has been postponed for the second time and is expected to take place only in May. On that occasion, possible punishments for the fighter will be discussed, which may include a monetary fine, suspension of MMA-related activities and the reversal of the victory over Nick Diaz on a No Contest (fight without result).

Anderson Silva doping

On February 3rd, a few days after winning Nick Diaz at UFC 183, it was announced that Anderson Silva had tested positive for the anabolic steroids drostanolone and androsterone in a surprise anti-doping test carried out on January 9th. A second examination, carried out on the 19th of the same month, did not show any trace of illegal substances. In the post-fight examination, however, Anderson tested positive again for anabolic steroids and, in addition, also for two anxiolytics, Oxazepam and Temazepam, medicines generally used to combat insomnia and sleep disorders.
