Focused on the Olympics, Anderson Silva rules out retirement from MMA: 'I'll fight for another five years'

Former middleweight champion guarantees that he will fulfill his current UFC contract and states that he will participate in the trials for the 2016 Games

Currently, Anderson Silva his focus is on the possibility of competing in the 2016 Olympic Games, in Rio de Janeiro, in the taekwondo competition. However, the fighter made it clear that this does not mean he will stop competing in MMA again, guaranteeing that he will fulfill his current contract with the UFC.

At the moment, “Spider”, champion of the organization between 2006 and 2013, has an undefined future due to the doping controversies in which he was involved. Even so, the 40-year-old athlete stated that he will fight in MMA for a few more years. “I'll be back, I'll be back. I won't stop fighting. Five more years still. I have eight, nine more fights left on my contract, and that would be five or six years. Until then, I still have the energy to fight”, said Anderson, in an interview with the “SporTV” channel.

The Brazilian stated that he will soon meet with the board of directors of the Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation (CBTKD) to facilitate his plans to participate in the Olympic Games. “I'm excited about the opportunity. On Wednesday, I'm going to talk to the president of the confederation and see what the possibilities are. I'll try to do all the selections and see what's possible. I hope everything goes well”, he commented.

Despite his desire, Anderson stated that he will participate in the tryouts for the games, which will take place at the beginning of next year. “Also because [failing to participate in the qualifiers] would be unfair to other teammates and other athletes who have been in the Olympic cycle for a long time, doing long-term work,” he explained.
