Velasquez's coach promises: 'Werdum will take a worse beating than Cigano'

Javier Mendez, leader of AKA, assured that his pupil, who has not played since October 2013, is in his best physical and mental shape

Almost five years ago, Cain Velazquez He doesn't know what it's like to step into the Octagon against an opponent who isn't Brazilian. During this period, the champion fought an intense battle against Junior Gypsy in the trilogy for the heavyweight belt, in which he ended up winning the last two clashes with dominant performances. Aware of this, Velasquez's coach, Javier Mendez, did not mince his words and used the duels against Cigano to provoke another Brazilian star, Fabricio Werdum, his pupil's next opponent, in the unification of the interim and linear titles in the 120 kg division, in June.

“To be honest, Werdum will be destroyed. That's the way I see this duel, and Cain sees this fight the same way I do. Either we will stop him or we will hurt him badly. He'll take a bigger beating than Cigano if he makes it to the fifth round. That’s a fact,” said Mendez, leader of American kickboxing Academy (AKA), to the North American website “MMA Fighting”. “Cain won’t lose. He's doing great, he's great physically, mentally, everything is great. The objective is that he wants to get in there to leave his mark and I'm going to say that he's going to get in there and do that in this fight. Cain is going to show everyone why he is the best,” he added.

The fight valid for the heavyweight belt will be the main fight of UFC 188, which marks the second visit of the most famous octagon on the planet to Mexican lands. In the co-main event of the night, Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alvarez will face off against Americans of Latin origin.
