before facing Cain Velazquez in the unification of the interim and linear heavyweight belts at UFC 188, in June, the Brazilian Fabricio Werdum fulfilled a commitment that was, to say the least, unusual in his agenda. Alongside the former champion Frank mir and the current middleweight title holder Chris Weidman, Werdum traveled to Russia and, among other activities, even trained sambo with none other than the president of Chechnya, one of the 21 republics of the Russian Federation.

The trio of Ultimate athletes were invited by the Head of State to attend a local event of his promotion, “Akhmat MMA – Grozny Fights”. The visit to eastern Russia was recorded by Werdum himself on social media. “The trip to Russia with me was really cool. Chris Weidman e Frank mir! I would like to thank the President of Chechnya for the sambo training for my next fight”, wrote the interim heavyweight champion on his profile on Facebook.
The visit was also highlighted by the young Chechen president, Ramzan Kadyrov, just 38 years old, who also released a video of the training. “Dear friends, world champions Badr Hari (Moroccan kickboxer), Chris Weidman, Fabricio Werdum, Frank mir and Zabit Samadov (K1 fighter from Georgia) promoted a special class in Grozny for fighters from 'Sports Club Ahmad'. World sports stars demonstrated defense and attack techniques on the ground and standing. During the sessions, local athlete Abdul-Kerim Edilov was Weidman and Hari's sparring partner. Weidman, Hari and Werdum noticed the great potential of Abdul-Kerim Edilova and expressed their desire to regularly invite him to the United States and get involved in his development as a fighter”, published the son of former president Akhmad Kadirov.
On June 13th, in Mexico City, Fabricio Werdum face Cain Velazquez for the unification of the heavyweight belt in the main fight of UFC 188. Now Chris Weidman enters the octagon even earlier. The middleweight champion puts his title on the line on May 23rd, at UFC 187, against the Brazilian challenger Vitor belfort. In its turn, Frank mir He is the only one of the trio to not have a scheduled appointment. The former heavyweight title holder is coming off a victory over Antonio Pezão in the main fight of UFC Porto Alegre, in February.
