The first edition of TUF América Latina took place in 2014 and was won by Alejandro Pérez and Yair Rodríguez. The reality show featured the heavyweight champion Cain Velazquez and the Brazilian Fabricio Werdum as coaches. The two were supposed to face each other in the tournament's final event, UFC 180, but Velasquez was injured and ended up being replaced by Mark Hunt, who was defeated by Werdum in the fight for the interim belt in the 120 kg division.
