Even though he recently won the interim UFC heavyweight title, Fabricio Werdum continues to be remembered as the man who took away the invincibility of the legendary Fedor Emelianenko after almost ten years. About to fight to unify the belts against the linear champion Cain Velazquez, at UFC 188, in June, Werdum reflects on the historic triumph over the Russian and already predicts for his rival a similar outcome to that of Fedor: being submitted by him.

“I imagine not only the fight (against Velasquez), but also my interview with Joe Rogan (official UFC commentator), and what I'm going to say. I think about all of this. What I want is to end this fight early, be it with a knee, a knockout, a high kick or a submission. But I imagine it will be on the ground, exactly like when I beat Fedor”, said the gaucho, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

As happened in the victory over Emelianenko, Werdum also has no problem if Velasquez falls on top in the ground game, as his arsenal of submissions even from below is wide. “Many people say that Cain Velazquez he won't play his usual game, which is to strike standing up, go for the takedown and stay on top. But I always felt comfortable applying jiu-jitsu. I defend myself well. It will be a great opportunity if the Cain Velazquez take me to the ground, because I can catch him in a triangle, omoplata or sweep him”, he commented.

On June 13, at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, in Mexico, Fabricio Werdum face Cain Velazquez in the unification of the heavyweight belt. The duel should have taken place in November last year, also on Mexican soil, but Velasquez was injured and was replaced by Mark Hunt, who ended up defeated by Werdum in the interim title fight. The two will now duel in the main fight of UFC 188, which features a fight between lightweights Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alvarez as the co-main event.
