The most recent doping case in the UFC, involving the welterweight Hector Lombard, took the Cuban fighter's manager by surprise. Narcis Mujkic stated that he did not expect the positive result of his athlete, recently caught using anabolic steroids after a fight at UFC 182, in early January.

Lombard, who on that occasion defeated Josh Burkman in the judges' decision, had the substance deoxymethyltestosterone, or DMT, detected in his body, which is one of the oldest steroids used by professional athletes.

In an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”, Mujkic said he was not expecting the result, as the fighter frequently undergoes exams at a clinic that sponsors him. “I was very, very surprised. He does this test every time and no problem has ever appeared”, he commented.

Still not fully understanding the case, Mujkic avoided making further comments, but assured that he is against the use of doping substances in MMA. “We do not approve doping in MMA. So far, we have not been aware of any doping by our fighter, so we cannot speculate on this case until the counter-evidence is ready and we have all the facts in hand. I am in contact with my fighter and we are waiting for the result,” he stated.
