Conor McGregor is proving to be a popular phenomenon in the UFC. The Irishman's dominant victory against Dennis Siver, last Sunday (18), broke a cable television audience record since the largest MMA organization on the planet signed an agreement with the broadcaster “FOX” in 2011.

The main attraction of UFC Fight Night 59, held in the city of Boston (USA), recorded an average of 2,7 million viewers on the “FOX Sports” channel. The number far surpasses the partnership's best record so far, which was from UFC Fight Night 26, the first to be broadcast on “FOX Sports” and which featured in the main fight Chael Sonnen against Mauritius Shogun. The event in question had 1,7 million viewers.

Additionally, UFC FN 59 ranked second in cable television ratings in the United States, second only to reality show Bravo's Real Housewives Atlanta, which averaged 3,1 million viewers.

The number is behind, however, the last UFC event held on open television, UFC on FOX 13, in December last year. The attraction, headlined by the duel between junior gypsy e Stipe Miocic, hit 3,8 million on average. The absolute record continues with UFC on FOX 1, in October 2011, when an average of 5,7 million people watched junior gypsy knock off Cain Velazquez and win the heavyweight belt.
