Last week, Jon Jones caused an uproar in the MMA community when he tested positive for cocaine in a surprise drug test and announced that he would enter a rehabilitation center just days after defending his light heavyweight belt against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182. The champion, however, seems to have overcome his problems quickly, as, according to his mother, he only remained in the clinic for one night.

The information was revealed by Camille Jones in an interview with the North American channel “WBNG-12”. According to the fighter's mother, he even intends to go to Foxborough, in the Boston region, next Sunday (18), to watch the final of the American Conference of the NFL (American football league) between the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots – teams for in which his brothers Arthur and Chandler play respectively.

More says Jones 'needed to be caught'

In addition to the details about her son's admission to the rehabilitation clinic, Camille Jones also talked about her conversation with the UFC champion after learning the results of the anti-doping test. According to the fighter's mother, they had a very honest conversation after the story became public.

“When he tested positive, my first question was, 'Do you have a problem? A serious problem?'. And then he told me what happened. Jon is usually pretty honest with me, so he told me what happened and I said, 'Good for you, really good. You needed to be caught, it's about time,'” Camille reported.

Furthermore, Jones' mother said she was happy that things happened this way, as she believes in her son's recovery. “I'm glad this happened to Jon so he can get off this path. To let him know that he needs to change some of his friends. He knows how it is, not everyone is there for his good. So it's a good thing as our family is worried but not upset. My husband and I consider it a blessing from God that our son can be helped and we know he needs to stop and we know he needs assistance to stop before it becomes something worse,” she concluded.

At 27, Jon Jones has a professional record of 21 wins and one loss. As the surprise exam was carried out outside the competition period, which begins 12 hours before the start of the fight, Jones will not suffer any type of sporting sanction – such as the reversal of the result of the fight against Daniel Cormier on a I didn't answer (fight without result) or even the loss of the belt. Such measures could only be applied by the Nevada Athletic Commission, if the fighter was caught in the anti-doping test carried out after UFC 182, the results of which have not yet been released.
