Less than two weeks away from competing for the lightweight belt against Anthony Pettis in the co-main fight of UFC 181, Gilbert Melendez decided to intensify his training routine and prepare for the duel at the “Glendale Fighting Club”, in California. On the team, led by Armenian Edmond Tarverdyan, Melendez was joined by none other than the bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in a jiu-jitsu session recorded on video.

In the images, Melendez appears simulating applying an illegal blow to the blonde after a transition, the “backbreaker” (or “back breaker”, in free translation) – a traditional movement of the pro wrestling (mixture of performing and martial arts, known in Brazil as telecatch), in which an athlete makes a lever against the rival's back with some part of their body, usually the knee.

Later, Gilbert Melendez appears sharpening his striking with Edmond Tarverdyan, responsible for preparing the stand-up part. Ronda Rousey – which has already given the champion two knockouts in her last fights, something previously unheard of in the muse's career. The fight between Melendez and Pettis, who were also TUF 20 coaches, will take place on December 6th, in Las Vegas (USA).
