The period of Jon Jones Working as a light heavyweight in the UFC may be coming to an end. The most dominant champion in the history of the 93 kg division admits that a move to the top division is getting closer and closer to happening, as he feels more comfortable with the idea of facing bigger opponents.
Jones considers that not having to cut weight would contribute to his performance and facilitate his performance in the Octagon. “It would be great not to go hungry during my training period. I would eat more and have more fuel, more energy. For sure. It would bring out the best in me. I could finally knock someone out. I would like to compete at 105 kg. At this weight, I have confidence against any of these guys. You can still use your skills: kicking high, being fast, spinning techniques, jumping strikes”, explained the fighter, in a statement reproduced on the website of the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.
Despite remaining cautious with his expectations, Jones believes he has all the prerequisites to be successful at heavyweight. “There are several heavyweights that I know I can beat. There are several heavyweights that could give me a hard time or possibly beat me. I keep my feet on the ground. I’m smaller than these guys,” he commented. “I've been training with heavy weights for years and I know how to compete with these guys. I tend to do well against them and this would be the next chapter”, continued the North American, who trains with names like Andrei Arlovski e alistair overeem.
Finally, Jones spoke about the possibility of facing the current heavyweight champion, Cain Velazquez. “It would be quite a fight. It would be the fight of my life, for sure. I would like to do this fight for the right payment and for the fans,” she concluded.
