Demian Maia: “Now I have to train hard”

After suffering the first defeat in his career, the black belt Demian Maia analyzed the first setback in its cartel. Very thoughtfully, the fighter agreed with the referee's interruption and stated that he was prepared for the next challenges.

“I knew that the first defeat would come one day, as I have intended to fight for many years, however, it happened in a very unexpected way, because I was careless in the stand-up fight. I repeated two kicks. He took my time, and, the third time, he came with a straight shot and knocked me out”, said Maia, who agreed with the referee's attitude of stopping the fight after the knockdown.

“At the beginning of the fight, everyone is very strong, and I think the referee did the right thing to stop the fight. I got up well, I didn't have any injuries, and that's the most important thing... But a direct blow to the chin, like the one I took at the beginning of the fight, is probably the only defeat that you can't comment on”, analyzed the fighter.
