The much criticized side judges had it easy and went unnoticed at UFC Fight Night 55, an event held on Friday night (07), in Sydney, Australia. With 11 duels on the program, none of them reached the end of the third round. There were seven knockouts and four submissions in a great show. In the main fight of the night, the North American Luke Rockhold showed why he is among the best in the middleweight division (up to 84 kg.) and submitted the Englishman Michael Bisping with a guillotine. The Brazilians on the card were unlucky. Guto Inocente and Vagner Rocha lost to Australians Anthony Perosh and Jake matthewsrespectively.
Rockhold beats Bisping and gets close to the belt
Ready to score his third consecutive victory in the UFC, Luke Rockhold encountered difficulties at the beginning of the first round. Michael Bisping He started the fight with a lot of movement and made the North American's actions difficult. However, despite his speed and movement, the Englishman lacked power and precision.
Having difficulty fighting on the feet, Rockhold changed his strategy and sought the clinch. But when he grabbed Bisping he ended up headbutting his rival and the duel had to be stopped. When the fight resumed, Luke tried to take the initiative, but without much productivity.
After a lackluster first round, the former Strikeforce champion showed why he is fifth in the middleweight division rankings. Rockhold walked forward, looked for combat and started working with high kicks. Bisping immediately felt uncomfortable.
First, Luke hit a plastic kick that he grazed, but the second blow, in sequence, connected with Bisping's face, who lost his balance and fell. Rockhold wasted no time and went to finish the fight. He landed a few punches on the ground and when Michael tried to get up, he landed a fair guillotine to finish the fight.
“With all due respect to Jacaré, but I will beat you again. I am the number 1 challenger, and I will defeat you again to prove that I am the best”, said Rockhold still in the Octagon, remembering the triumph he had against the Brazilian Ronaldo Jacare, in the Strikeforce belt dispute, in 2011.
Brazilians are doing badly
Before the Brazilian squad at UFC Fight Night 56, in Uberlândia, two athletes from the country entered the Octagon in Sydney, Australia. Vagner Rocha, the first Brazilian in action, was unable to impose himself on the young revelation Jake matthews. With no alternatives in the stand-up game, the Brazilian bet all his chips on ground work. Despite coming close to victory with a Kimura in the first round, it was precisely on the ground that he was defeated.
Matthews connected a superman punch to the face of the Brazilian who lost his balance. The Australian was quick to lock in the rear naked choke, erase the Brazilian and define the fight.
Just like his compatriot, Guto Inocente also had a night to forget. After a bad UFC debut at heavyweight in July, the Brazilian moved down to light heavyweight and didn't do well either.
Against Anthony Perosh, Guto showed fragility in his ground game. After being taken down early in the fight, the Brazilian was unable to find his footing. The Australian advanced positions, dominated the back and with hard-hitting blows that almost made the referee end the fight.
Guto Inocente showed courage and even resisted the punishment, but after Perosh reached his back again, he managed a tight choke and forced the Brazilian to give up the fight.
