The Brazilian Wanderlei Silva announced his retirement from MMA in September after being banned from the sport by the Nevada Athletic Commission – due to refusing to take a drug test. However, the ‘Crazy Dog’ could return to competitions sooner than anyone imagines. American Phil Baroni, former UFC and Pride fighter, wrote on his Twitter account that he received an offer to fight Wand in 2014.

“If this email is legitimate, I will fight with Wanderlei Silva on New Year’s Eve in Japan,” wrote Baroni on the microblogging network. Despite going through a time of crisis, the events held on the last day of the year were always a great highlight, with arenas filled with audiences of almost 100 thousand people.
As Japanese events have no connection with the United States athletic commissions – which in addition to the country are usually followed in Canada, Brazil and the United Kingdom – Wand could perform in the country and return to its big stage. Between 2000 and 2006, Wand was the main athlete of the now extinct Pride, the main MMA event of the last decade. He was GP champion up to 93 kg in 2003, and champion of the same division for six years.
