Fabricio Werdum has been preparing for a long time to challenge for the UFC heavyweight belt in event number 180, on November 15th. The gaucho even completed the final stretch of his training in Mexico to adapt to the altitude of the place. With his opponent's last-minute change, leaving Cain Velazquez and entering Mark Hunt, Werdum is confident that he will go into combat with an advantage over his opponent.
Hunt was notified of the fight with just over three weeks to go. Although the New Zealander also trains in Mexico to facilitate his adaptation, Werdum believes that the longer training time will make a difference in his favor. “I definitely feel like I will have a slight advantage over Mark Hunt. You really feel the impact of the altitude when you train in Mexico. You need to let your body get used to it”, said Werdum, in an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.
Despite the change in opponent and importance of the fight – previously the straight belt was worth it, and now it will be worth the interim title –, Werdum guarantees that he remains motivated to participate in the first edition of the UFC in Mexico. “I'm a little disappointed. I think this hurts the fight a little, because Cain has many admirers and fans [in Mexico]. It's disappointing that Cain won't be there, but it will still be a historic event.”
