Anderson Silva opens up about his career and reveals who was the strongest opponent he faced in the UFC

Former UFC champion tells details of the fight that unified the middleweight belts in 2008 and praises Dan Henderson as the strongest he has ever faced in the Octagon

Anderson Silva, one of the biggest names in the history of MMA, opened up about his career and his main fights in a conversation with Rogério Minotouro, another former fighter from UFC, on the “Tourocast” podcast.

The Brazilian, who had his last MMA fight in 2020, told details about the confrontation he had with Dan Henderson, in March 2008, at UFC 82, and which ended with his victory via submission in the second round.

"The Dan Henderson In the first round he knocked me down there, then I made a 'guard' and ended up holding his back. He's a very strong guy. Of the guys I've fought (throughout my MMA career), I think he's the strongest I've ever faced in my life,” he said. Anderson Silva.

At the time, 'Spider' was the UFC middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) and Henderson arrived with PRIDE morale. The American was known for his strength, his takedowns and his knockout power. However, Anderson managed to secure a rear naked choke in the second round, retaining his title and his undefeated record in the UFC.

Anderson Silva, who is 48 years old, had 46 fights in MMA, with 34 wins, 11 losses and one fight without result. The 'Spider' was UFC middleweight champion for more than seven years, defending the belt 11 times, and is considered by many fans and experts to be the best fighter of all time.

His last fight in MMA was in October 2020, when he lost by technical knockout to Uriah Hall. Since then, he dedicated himself to Boxing, where he beat Julio César Chávez Jr. and Tito Ortiz, in addition to a setback for Jake Paul.

Dan Henderson He had 47 fights in MMA, with 32 wins and 15 losses. He was a PRIDE champion in the middleweight and light heavyweight categories, and also fought in Strikeforce and the UFC, where he challenged for the belt twice, but failed to win it.

He retired from MMA in 2016 after losing to Michael Bisping. In his career, the North American defeated names like Mauricio Shogun (twice), Fedor Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva, Vitor belfort e Rodrigo Minotauro. The fighter is also part of the UFC Hall of Fame.
