St. Pierre: 'Nick Diaz was wrong to accept a middleweight fight against Anderson Silva'

Canadian even remembered his own duel against the North American and advised Spider

Retired since March last year, after the defeat to Georges St Pierre, Nick Diaz he had guaranteed that he would only fight again if he was offered a fight for the belt or a super fight. And that's exactly what happened, when last July the Ultimate organization announced that he would return to the octagon on January 31, 2015 against the former champion Anderson Silva, in the main fight of UFC 183. However, his last opponent, St. Pierre, believes that Diaz made a bad choice in accepting the duel against Spider under the proposed terms.

“To tell you the truth, I might have given Diaz as the favorite if the fight were at combined weight. Because in five rounds, Diaz is a very durable fighter. I've seen him in several complicated situations and he's very, very tough to submit or knock out. But now everything is different because it is the weight category of Anderson Silva. I believe that Nick Diaz made a mistake in accepting this fight (against Anderson) at middleweight instead of combined weight, which I think would be fairer”, said GSP, in an interview with the former fighter’s new podcast Chael Sonnen.

Afterwards, the Canadian advised Anderson and recalled his own experience in combat against Diaz to point out what the Brazilian should avoid. “He’s a very, very intelligent fighter. His image and the character he is are very intelligent. My game plan when I fought him was not to fall for it, because it was important. If I had fallen for him and entered into a fight festival, it would have been his fight. I could have fought his fight and he probably would have won. You know, he’s an aggressive guy, so in these situations that’s when he does best”, he analyzed.

At 33, Georges St Pierre has a professional record of 25 wins and two losses. The Canadian retired from MMA for an indefinite period of time at the end of last year, after defending his belt for the ninth consecutive time, and since then he has been heavily linked to speculation about his possible return to the sport, something that so far has never come to fruition.
