Those who followed UFC Rio 5 were surprised when Phil Davis challenged Anderson Silva in the octagon right after defeating Glover Teixeira in the co-main event of the event.
The North American, who put yet another victory over the Brazilian on his resume (he had already defeated Rogério Minotouro, Wagner Caldeirão, Vinny Magalhães and Lyoto Machida), believes that a victory over the former middleweight champion would crown his record against athletes from the country.

“Everyone kept asking me if I was the killer of Brazilians. I don't know if I would call myself a killer, but, at the same time, this would complete my triple crown of Brazilian fighters", explained Davis, during the event's press conference, referring to the fact that he beat Teixeira and Machida in Rio of January. “He is one of the best Brazilian fighters and one of the best there is. Why not? He’s an incredible fighter,” he added.
Even if the UFC grants his request, the fight against Anderson would take some time to happen, as the Brazilian has a commitment scheduled against Nick Diaz for January 31st.
