After winning the Dream middleweight belt, Gegard Mousasi debuted successfully in American territory. The Armenian didn't give Renato “Babalu” Sobral a chance and knocked out the Brazilian just one minute into the fight, winning the Strikeforce light heavyweight belt. After the triumph, Mousasi stated that he had trained hard and showed that he had followed the strategy outlined before the fight well.
“I trained very hard to face Babalu, I felt comfortable and confident in the ring. I wanted to fight standing up, but I knew he would look for the clinch, so I wanted to give him the advantage, as I knew I could take him down. When I had the chance I caught him and after one, two, straight shots I saw that he was dizzy, so I just had to hit him a little more”, analyzed Mousasi.
