The main technician of Rory McDonald, Firas Zahabi, believes that his pupil should be the next fighter to challenge for the UFC welterweight belt. And he bets that this is also the wish of MMA fans after the Canadian's impressive victory against Tarec saffiedine, last Saturday (4).
On that occasion, MacDonald imposed his game and managed a beautiful knockout over the Belgian, who is considered one of the strikers most skilled in the division. Precisely because the outcome of the fight was exciting, Zahabi believes that a title fight is the natural path for the Canadian.
“When he won Tyron woodley, said he would get the title shot next. But it wasn't enough. They gave Matt Brown the winner and Robbie Lawler. It's because they have more exciting performances, and that's what the market is made of. People want to pay for what they want to see, and I understand that. I think now people want to see Rory”, said Zahabi, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
The coach highlighted the power of the blow given by MacDonald to Saffiedine. “He finished the fight with an incredible left hook that would have knocked out an elephant if he had hit an elephant. I think people believe it would be an exciting fight against whoever becomes the champion,” he said.
Zahabi doesn't think there's another fight that would make sense for MacDonald. “If you look at the top 10, who else could face him? Everyone already has a fight scheduled, and those who don't have one, Rory has already beaten them. I don't see anyone who makes sense. The only thing that makes sense is him facing the winner of Hendricks and Lawler. I can’t think of anyone else”, concluded the coach.
Hendricks and Lawler will rematch for the UFC welterweight belt in December, in the main attraction of event number 181.
