Former UFC welterweight champion and member of the North American organization's Hall of Fame, Pat Miletich caused controversy this week with a message on his Twitter account. After the news broke that a patient suspected of having Ebola had been admitted to a hospital in the United States capital, Washington, the former fighter said he hoped that the disease would reach the contact of the country's president, Barack Obama. “Ebola has arrived in Washington and we can only hope that some White House intern comes into contact with [the disease] so they can place it in the belly of the beast,” Miletich wrote.

The former athlete explained that the reason for his anger was the fact that the country still accepts flights from Liberia, in Africa, considered one of the major concentration points for the disease. “My argument is that Washington listens to citizens who ask for the borders to be closed. I'm 100% American, and any president who cares about his citizens would cancel trips immediately. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, but I wonder how Washington would react if a politician showed up with the disease. I’m sure that would change,” he explained.

Despite Miletich's revolt, the patient hospitalized in Washington had the possibility of having Ebola ruled out. However, the country has already registered the first confirmed case of the disease, in Dallas, in the state of Texas.
