Saturday (04) of the UFC's double round started hot. So hot that Rick Story managed to overcome the support of the Nordic fans and break the unbeaten record of 'Iceman' Gunnar Nelson. With good striking and good physical conditioning, the North American was better from the second round onwards to win after five rounds. The fight was the main attraction of UFC Fight Night 53, an event held this afternoon in Stockholm, Sweden.
The fight
Until then undefeated in MMA with 13 victories, four of which in the UFC, Gunnar Nelson arrived for the main fight of the night as the main attraction of the card. The Icelander, who had the support of the Swedish fans, dreamed of entering the top-10 of the welterweight category.
Nelson even started the fight well. With his karate base, he found the distance in the first moves and worked with kicks to the body, hand strikes and takedown threats to open up the advantage. However, from the second round onwards the story changed.
Story returned to the fight more aggressive, closing the distance and working on his boxing. Nelson was visibly scared and was unable to respond to the attacks. In the third half, the Icelander changed his strategy and started looking for a takedown, but with all his attacks well defended by the North American.
Story grew even more in the fourth round when he scored a knockdown with a left cross. The Icelander got up, but was unable to recover from the difference and ended up overtaken by the judges' decision.
