the irish Conor McGregor earned its reputation as ‘new Chael Sonnen’ at UFC 178.  The featherweight gave controversial interviews, provoked his rival and drew all the attention of the show to himself. In the octagon he lived up to everything he promised in promoting the fight, he was not aware of Dustin poirier and knocked out his rival in just 1m46s. After celebrating the triumph, the controversial Irishman took the microphone from Joe Rogan, the event's official reporter, and challenged the champion José Aldo for a fight in the football stadium.

The fight

Before the fight even started Conor McGregor has already demonstrated his reputation as a controversialist. While the central referee, Herb Dean, was giving instructions for the start of the duel, he put his hand close to Poirier's face and called him into the fight. The American didn't seem to like it and Dean told the athletes to back off.

Once the fight really started, McGregor wasted no time and went straight for it. He landed some low kicks combined with boxing strikes. Lacking confidence, Poirier seemed to start to loosen up in the fight after the first minute when he was caught.

Conor McGregor landed a left hook and the American bent his knee. From then on, the Irishman fired an arsenal of blows until the referee stopped the fight and declared a technical knockout in favor of the controversial featherweight.

“I don’t just knock them out, I pick the round. What these guys don't understand is that before they get hit by me, they don't know what this is. I'm going to knock them all out in the first round, come on. MMA fighters have similar movements, no one moves like me, I look for different angles and this is the new way of fighting. The new way of fighting is Irish. I knew he hadn't taken blows like mine, he's a great fighter, he was also focused, but when featherweights get hit by me, they have a different feeling”, said McGregor before challenging José Aldo.

“Do you know what’s coming now? I'm going to brazil. When Aldo eliminates (Chad) mini-Mendes, let's do Aldo vs. McGregor. It could be anywhere, it could be in Brazil or in a football stadium in Ireland! Let’s go to war”, he provoked.
