Chris Weidman, which would face Vitor belfort in the main fight of UFC 181, in December, he had to abandon his commitment and postpone his next title defense. However, the hand injury that took him out of the event is nothing new for the current Ultimate middleweight champion. In an interview with the North American website “Newsday”, Weidman revealed that he had suffered with the injury since mid-June, when he first felt the discomfort in his left hand. According to the fighter, the pain was so bad that it made it difficult for him to “brush his teeth or open the car door”.

However, after undergoing tests, it was detected that Weidman was suffering from problems with the ligaments in his hand, which should improve in a matter of weeks. Months later, the pain persisted. “I was really confused by this hand,” said the American.

During his training to face Belfort, Weidman decided to continue despite his injured hand. In a session sparring with fellow UFC athlete Stephen Thompson, Weidman took a blow to his injured hand, which further aggravated the injury. “It killed me. I couldn't even move my hand for three or four days”, said the champion.

Intrigued, Weidman decided, last Monday (22), to look for a reference doctor in the area of hand orthopedics. After detailed examinations, an old crack was detected at the site, which had not been seen in previous consultations. Thus, Weidman had to immobilize his hand and, consequently, postpone the fight with Belfort.
