It's been almost a month since the push José Aldo em Chad Mendes during the UFC Rio 5 promotional event at the Maracanã stadium, but it seems that the North American still hasn't quite digested the Brazilian's attitude. During an interview, Mendes harshly criticized the featherweight champion's stance and did not mince his words when referring to the Brazilian.

“This guy is an asshole. We were there (at the Maracanã event) to sell the fight and he goes and pushes me? Afterwards he even tried to say in interviews: 'Ah, I just tried to sell the fight'. Either you are an idiot or you have lost your mind. It’s one of those two things”, said Mendes, to the “MMA Junkie” website. “It doesn’t make sense for me to push a guy in a face-off. That's our job, we're supposed to face each other and pose for the damn cameras. If you don't like the fact that I'm there, don't make the damn stare, he added.

Furthermore, the challenger also revealed how he feels about the rematch on October 25th. “Of course I would love to beat this guy up, but to go out there and get a quick win, especially against a guy like José Aldo in a fight like this…I would definitely be happier to win like this. Aldo seems like a guy in his comfort zone because it's working for him. But I think it takes a guy like me, with my style, to take him out of that comfort zone and really test his skills. This type of fight is always interesting for the fans”, he assured.

On October 25th, with or without more pushing and shoving, Chad Mendes e José Aldo put their differences to the test in the fight for the featherweight belt that marks the main fight of UFC 179, also known as UFC Rio 5. The event takes place at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho and will feature a duel between Glover Teixeira e Phil Davis as co-main bout.
