Mark Hunt, ranked fifth in the UFC heavyweight rankings, doesn't want to waste any time. A few days after knocking out Roy Nelson in the main fight of UFC Japan, last Saturday (20), the New Zealander is already planning his next commitment in the UFC: he wants to face Josh Barnett in the event that will be held in Australia, on November 8th.
The two fighters have already faced each other once, in 2006, in the quarter-finals of the PRIDE Absolute GP. On that occasion, the North American won quickly, with a submission. For Hunt, the repeat of the confrontation makes perfect sense.
“I was thinking: Josh Barnett is above me in the rankings [note: the interview was done before this week's update of the official UFC rankings which now features Hunt in fifth, just ahead of Barnett], so maybe Dana could put me in against him at the show in Sydney”, said the New Zealander, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
“I love rematches. I never lost a rematch. Josh Barnett, my friend, you and I have a date. He's fifth in the rankings, I want to face the guys in the top 10. I'd like to fight and get close to the title fight. That's all I'm interested in. My purpose in fights is to fight for the title. We are close in the rankings, so why not put me against him?”, continued the fighter.
