Charles of the Bronx detailed the health issues that culminated in his last-minute departure from the UFC Fight Night 50 card last week. The Brazilian fighter, who would have his long-awaited rematch against Nik lentz on the preliminary card of the attraction, he fell ill a few days before the fight, which weakened him and prevented him from making weight. Afterwards, Do Bronx ended up not being released by the organization's doctors, canceling his fight.

The fighter regretted what happened and assured that he was well prepared for the fight. “I went to the USA without feeling 100%, with a bit of a fever, and when I started to cut weight my immunity dropped a lot, leaving me very unwell. Anyone who is with me knows how important this fight was for me, how hard I was training before this virus arrived. I wouldn't give up for anything. The week before the weigh-in was very difficult due to cutting weight at the last minute, as with this flu I couldn't cut weight in Brazil like I always did. As he was very weak before the weigh-in, we decided to stop losing weight and pay the 20% of the scholarship. On the morning of the weigh-in, I tried to sweat a little to see what would happen and I felt very dizzy when I hit the handle with Monkey, I felt like vomiting, my body heated up very quickly and I had a fever again. We called the UFC doctors and they immediately banned me from fighting. Just by looking, they could see that I was really in bad shape. I know they're going to say that I'm yellow and everything, but I'll let them talk. I’m focused on my recovery”, explained the fighter.

Conformed by the episode, Do Bronx said he was focused on his recovery, showing a preference to marry the fight against Lentz in a new opportunity. “I’ve already returned home and my family’s affection is what we need at this moment. After the results of the exams, I will sit down with my coaches and devise a strategy to return as quickly as possible. I'm also waiting for some contact from the UFC for a next fight. If it goes with Lentz, it will be perfect. It was a fluke that made me leave the fight, but if it's another opponent, I'm also prepared for whatever the UFC gives me. I wasn’t 100% and I tried everything I could to fight, but unfortunately it wasn’t possible, I was in a really bad condition,” he concluded.
