MMA fans, especially those who have been following the UFC for the past decade, will remember Anderson Silva as one of the greatest fighters in history. However, if it depends on Anderson himself, he may end up being recognized by younger people more for his performances in cinema than necessarily for his past glories in sports. During an interview, Spider revealed that he is getting closer to hanging up his gloves and assured that his future is in cinema.

“I already went through that thing of being the champion, of having the belt and so on. The truth is that Ayrton Senna will only have one, Pelé will only have one and Anderson Silva there will only be one. So, whoever saw it, saw it... Whoever didn't see it, doesn't see it anymore. In a way, you'll see, but not fighting for the belt, that belt thing again. I don't have the patience for this anymore. I think that with each passing day I get closer to retiring,” Anderson said on Rede Globo’s “Fantástico” program. “I think that within the fight I achieved the things I wanted and wanted and in fact I'm not going to become an actor, I'm already an actor. People get a lot confused: 'Ah, he's trying'. No, I'm not trying, I'm already an actor. My goal is to be as good an actor as I was a fighter. I don’t pretend to be a Denzel Washington, but I hope to get close”, he assured.

Anderson currently has a few works in his filmography, almost all of them related in some way to the world of martial arts. In addition to the praised documentary about his first fight against Chael Sonnenn “Like water” (2011), in which he does not necessarily participate acting, Anderson was in the features “Tapped Out” (2014), “Saw” (2009) and “Hell's Chain” (2009), in which he starred alongside fellow fighters Lyoto Machida, Georges St. Pirre, Quinton Rampage Jackson, Heath Herring, among others. The former champion also made a special appearance in “Até que a Sorte nos Separe 2”, starring comedian Leandro Hassum, and recently recorded his first dramatic role in the romance “Monday Nights at Seven”, which still has no official release date.

After fracture, Spider has a psychologist to help him kick again

Even though the big screen project is important and grand in Anderson's life, the former champion has a challenge ahead of him on what has until now been the biggest stage of his life: the Octagon. In January 2015, 13 months after the fracture in his left leg suffered during the rematch against Chris Weidman, the Brazilian fights again and faces Nick Diaz. For his first performance after the injury, the Spider revealed that he has been receiving psychological assistance to regain confidence in his kicks.

“The strength is coming, because I returned to training, so the strength is coming. What's really difficult is self-confidence, getting back to kicking the way I used to kick. I am being monitored by a psychologist so that I can remove the ghosts of those horrible moments during the fight, when I had the accident. When it comes to training, I get a little apprehensive. I know I can perform the movement, but I end up not doing it out of fear. I know it won't hurt. But fear is natural”, analyzed Anderson, who also assessed his current physical condition with astonishing precision. “I won’t say 100%, but I’m 91%”, he guaranteed.

At 39, Anderson Silva has a professional record of 33 wins and six losses. Middleweight champion between 2006 and 2013, Anderson returns to the octagon on January 31st. In the minutes, Spider faces the former champion of the extinct Strikeforce Nick Diaz. The duel is the main fight of UFC 183, a traditional event on the Ultimate agenda that precedes the day of the SuperBowl (the American football final in the United States), in Las Vegas (USA).
