After the excellent first duel, held last February, MMA fans were looking forward to the rematch of UFC 294. Even with Volkanovski agreeing to replace Charles of the Bronx and face Makhachev with just 11 days notice, it was expected that the high balance of the duel would UFC 284 if repeated.

However, the lightweight champion had other plans for the night in Abu Dhabi. Before the middle of the first round, Makhachev landed a beautiful shot that caught Volkanovski's head.
