After the entire series of controversies that further heated up the atmosphere for the duel for the light heavyweight belt, the public will now have to wait until 2015 to see Jon Jones x Daniel Cormier, due to the postponement of the fight that would take place in September due to an injury to the champion. But one person in particular was even more unhappy with this news: Alexander Gustafson. Originally scheduled to face Jones on September 27th, but replaced by Cormier after getting injured in training, the Swede went public to complain about the decision to transfer the same fight and not grant him back his challenger status.

“I just heard the news that Jones is injured and the fight has been rescheduled for January 3rd??? By then, I'll be more than ready. This was MY number one fight and I WANT this fight as number one contender. End of story”, Gustafsson published on his official Facebook profile, along with a photo of him facing the champion in their first meeting – held in September last year and awarded “Fight of the Year 2013”.

Not satisfied with the outburst, the Swede made another publication, this time on Instagram, questioning the criteria for choosing who would be the champion's next opponent. “Apparently, the UFC thinks that acting like a clown at a press conference will generate more publicity for a fight than having the fight of the century. This is ridiculous!”, said Gustafsson, who this time chose to illustrate the text with the iconic photo of his meeting with Jones in the hospital after the UFC 165 battle.

After much anticipation for the way the first clash between the two went, Alexander Gustafson e Jon Jones they would face each other again at UFC 178, scheduled for September 27th. But the Swede was injured and gave way to Daniel Cormier, who in just over two weeks of the announcement fought with the champion in public, heard threats behind the scenes and exchanged insults and more insults with his rival via the media. With Jones' injury, the duo's reckoning was now scheduled for January 3, at UFC 182. UFC 178 received a new main fight, with the fight for the flyweight belt between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso.
