Daniel Cormier did not take the news well that Jon Jones was injured, which forced the fight between them to be postponed until UFC 182, in January 2015. The light heavyweight title challenger said he was deeply upset by what happened, although he derived something positive from the news.

Cormier, who suffers from an injury to both knees, said he will be able to work to recover, which will allow him to fight in full condition at the beginning of next year.

“I am very disappointed. I started training really hard. It's discouraging, but now I have time to get completely healthy”, said the fighter, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

In addition to showing all his discontent, Cormier took advantage of the news to poke at his rival. “I don't know how injured Jon is, but we have to remember that I took this fight with an injury that already existed. I could fight even injured, and I just wish Jon would do the same,” he continued.

Furthermore, Cormier clarified that he will be retained as the next challenger for the UFC light heavyweight belt. Jones' original opponent for UFC 178 in September was Alexander Gustafson, who left the commitment due to a knee injury. Even though the Swede is ready to fight in January, Ultimate partner Lorenzo Fertitta assured Cormier that he will be the champion's next opponent.
