Undefeated as a professional and European kickboxing champion, Russian Alexander Bolshakov was arrested and accused of leading a gang that transported 72 kg of drugs from Montevideo, Uruguay, to Russia. The group was dismantled after the arrest of some of its members at Saint Petersburg airport, after being intercepted by the Federal Narcotics Control Service.

According to the Russian website “MMABoxing.ru”, the gang had brought 12 kg of cocaine from South America and another 60 kg of other narcotics, including hashish. Bolshakov would have a fundamental role in the scheme, as, in addition to leading the group, he had also worked for the Narcotics Control Service in the past.

The gang was framed under article 229.1 of the Russian Federation's criminal code, which provides for a fine of one million rubles (approximately R$63) plus a period of detention that can range from 15 to 20 years. Despite this, the website's report does not rule out the possibility that the fighter and his associates could even be sentenced to life in prison.
