Chael Sonnen made a controversial suggestion for the fight between Paulo borrachinha e Khamzat Shimaev, which is marked for the UFC 294, in Abu Dhabi. The former fighter and current commentator argued that the former welterweight champion (up to 77kg.) Kamaru Usman be selected as a reserve fighter, if one of the two protagonists is unable to perform on the day of the event.
On his YouTube channel, Sonnen argued that Borrachinha x Chimaev is the most anticipated fight on the card, even though it is not the main one, and that the UFC You can't risk losing it. He said that Usman is the ideal name to replace either of the two, as he has already expressed interest in facing the Swede, has experience fighting in the upper division and is in great physical shape.

“It is essential that the UFC has a reserve fighter in Abu Dhabi to Paulo borrachinha x Chimaev. The right guy has to be ready and he is there. The right guy to replace Paulo borrachinha ou Khamzat Shimaev, a little inside information for you, the right guy is Kamaru Usman”, declared Sonnen.

Kamaru Usman at middleweight?
Sonnen also explained why Usman did not agree to fight Chimaev at middleweight (up to 83,9kg) previously, when the Swede was undefeated and challenged all fighters with great popularity. According to him, the Nigerian did not want to put himself in a position to compete for the category belt against Israel adesanya, his friend and teammate.
“That’s his real size. Usman looks good at middleweight. If he beat Chimaev, which he planned to do, he didn't want to be in a position where he faced him (Israel adesanya) Izzy”, he stated.
So far, neither the UFC nor the fighters involved have commented on Sonnen's idea. O UFC 294 is scheduled to take place on October 21st, in Abu Dhabi.
