Alien to the recent confusion involving Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafson underwent knee surgery this Tuesday (5) in order to repair the injury he suffered two weeks ago.

The Swede, ranked first in the UFC's light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg), posted a photo on his account on Instagram right after waking up from surgery. “There, I just woke up! I have never been more motivated, my friends!”, wrote the fighter.

Before “going under the knife”, Gustafsson commented that the surgery would be relatively simple. “It’s not serious surgery by any means. In fact, it is one of the simplest knee injuries you can have. It is a very easy surgery, it only takes 15 to 20 minutes. Recovery time only takes a few weeks, and you can walk home from surgery. It’s not a big deal, but it’s a small problem that can turn into something big if you don’t do anything about it”, explained the Swede, in an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast.

Even though it is a simple procedure, Gustafsson declared that he prefers to recover fully before having the desired rematch against Jon Jones. “For me to have a training period of 10 to 12 weeks for Jones, I need to be 100%. I can't enter the Octagon knowing something is hurting. I need to be 100%,” she commented.

Originally, Alexander Gustafson e Jon Jones would be in the main fight of UFC 178, which will be held on September 27th in Las Vegas (USA). However, the injury caused the Swede to be withdrawn from the contest, opening space for Daniel Cormier challenge the champion.
