Jiu-jitsu took over São Paulo last Saturday, when the first edition of the National Cup took place, an event organized by the World Legue Pro Jiu-Jitsu (WLPJJ). The black belts did well in the excellent facilities of the Magno school gym and, among the highlights, Alliance's Bernardo Augusto was the best in the heavyweight division.
“Thank God I managed to become champion. In total I had five fights. In the first weight class I submitted with an omoplata and in the weight final I submitted Fred Zaganelli, from Gracie Barra, with a choke from the back. In the heavyweight absolute, in the first I beat Claudio Godoi 11-2, in the second I beat Alencar Ferrari, from Gracie ABC, 5-2, and in the final I submitted Eduardo Toledo, from Liga Jiu-Jitsu, with an omoplata”, he said. Bernardo, who approved the event. “It was super cool. The three adult black belt absolutes were worth R$1000 each and the finals were televised on Premiere Combate. I'm very pleased, because it's been two weeks since I returned from the World Cup in the United States, where I came third, having lost to Roger gracie in the semi-final, and I’ve already competed in another championship”, he concluded.
President of WLPJJ, Fernando Lopes, Fepa, points out other positive highlights of the competition.
“Leon Amâncio put on a show among the lighter crowd and Beatriz Mesquita and Michelle Nicolini did well in the women's category. The event was really cool. In addition to the large number of registrants, we were concerned about the treatment of the athletes, with a fruit table and Gatorade released. The medals were beautiful and, in addition to the cash prize, we gave belts to the absolute champions”, he said. Check out the absolute black belt results:
