British Luke Barnatt, member of Team Sonnen in TUF 17, went to the press to publicly challenge Wanderlei Silva, declared disaffection of his mentor. The middleweight stated that the Brazilian would be an easy fight and a chance for redemption for Chael, with whom he maintains a good relationship. Upon learning of Barnatt's challenge, Wand didn't let it go unnoticed and used his official profile on Facebook to get back at his new rival.
“Who is this skinny guy who is talking nonsense?” wrote the ex-champion of the extinct PRIDE on the social network, along with the reproduction of the news about the Briton's provocations. The publication quickly received hundreds of comments, most of them supporting Wanderlei or even encouraging the Brazilian to accept the challenge proposed by Luke.
Despite the irony in his response, Wand later assumed that he would fight against Barnatt. “I don’t even know who the guy is. I looked at the photo and said: 'I can't believe it, this skinny guy?'. I would give him a beating. Hitting a bag like that is easy money. I would agree to fight with him. It's money in savings. I would hit him with my eyes closed. If he wants to face someone with a name, I give him that opportunity perfectly”, he revealed, in an interview with the “Combate” channel website.
Furthermore, the “Mad Dog” reiterated his desire to fight against Chael Sonnen ou Vitor belfort and even added a third name to the list of preferred targets. “Sonnen and Belfort are the two fights that I really want and they will have to happen. When Sonnen is better to fight, it could happen. But there are other guys appearing, there is the one that Belfort won, the Luke Rockhold. I wasn't even thinking about him, but they said his name to me and I said it could be. I only know him because he lost to Belfort”, she concluded.
