Fighter Duda Yankovich, former world boxing champion and MMA competitor, suffered a stroke last Wednesday (9) and remains hospitalized in the ICU at Barra D'or hospital, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).

The 37-year-old athlete was rescued by Rodrigo Minotauro, leader of Team Nogueira, the gym for which he trains. According to the former PRIDE and UFC champion's physiotherapist, Ângela Côrtes, Minotauro played a fundamental role in saving Yankovich's life.

“I received a call from Rodrigo Minotauro on Wednesday and he told me that Duda was getting all twisted up in the gym and asked me what he should do. From his description, I realized that it was a stroke and asked him to take her immediately to a private hospital, since in a public hospital they would not have the necessary equipment to save her life. “If Rodrigo hadn't been as quick as he was and if she hadn't received high-level care, she would have died”, detailed the doctor, in an interview with the news agency “Ag. Fight.”

According to the physiotherapist, it is still too early to know whether the fighter will have any after-effects after the incident. “Now she is in the ICU, she is conscious, but fully equipped. As soon as she arrived at the hospital, she went straight to a catheterization, as the middle cerebral artery was completely obstructed, so it was not something simple. We will wait for the evolution of her condition, which remains stable and we still don’t know if she will have any consequences”, she commented.

Born in Serbia, but naturalized Brazilian, Yankovich has a record of one win and three losses in professional MMA, where she started competing after leaving boxing. She also became known when she participated, in 2011, in the reality show “A Fazenda”, from which she was expelled after attacking another participant.
