The long-awaited rematch between José Aldo e Chad Mendes, which was scheduled for August 2nd, will have to be postponed. This is because the current UFC featherweight champion suffered an injury during training and event number 176, which will take place in the city of Los Angeles (USA), had to be removed from the card.

The UFC has not yet commented on Mendes' possible stay at the event, nor on which fight will be the main event. main event of the night. The fight between Aldo and Mendes would be a repeat of the January 2012 meeting, when the Brazilian won by knockout in the first round in Rio de Janeiro.

In an interview with the “Combate” channel website, Aldo’s trainer, Dedé Pederneiras, gave details of the injury that took the Brazilian out of combat. “Last week, he was training and he fell. When he went to support his hand, he slipped, hitting his head and shoulder very hard on the floor. Then he started complaining of a lot of pain. We called the doctor and he ordered an urgent MRI to take a look. The following day, another herniated disc was found in the neck. The impact was on top of the previous hernia he already had. It was found that he has a decrease in the foramen. He also has a small tear in his labrum. We're really sorry, but it's a sports thing. Aldo is very sad. It's a very important fight for him and we hope that this fight happens in the future. It will happen anyway, but not at the moment, because he needs to recover”, he said.

Aldo already entered the UFC as champion of the featherweight category, as he held the belt from the now-defunct WEC event, acquired by Ultimate. He has already made six successful title defenses, the last of which was against Ricardo Lamas, in February. Mendes, in turn, has won five victories since his defeat to Aldo, which gives him another chance to fight for the title.
