Despite drawing a parallel with what happened in the World Cup, Sonnen later tried to distinguish the situations and position himself contrary to Luis Suárez's attitude in the game against Italy. “Biting someone during the course of a fight at least makes some kind of sense, now walking up to a guy and biting his shoulder from behind is a really weird thing to do,” questioned the now former professional MMA fighter.
For biting Chiellini, Luis Suárez was suspended for nine international competition games and is banned from any football-related activity for the next four months. The attacker has already left Brazil and returned to Uruguay. Curiously, Chael Sonnen also recently experienced a situation that could result in disciplinary punishment. The fighter was caught in a surprise drug test before UFC 175 and shortly afterwards announced his retirement from MMA, mainly due to the end of licenses for the use of TRT in the sport. Away from the octagons, Sonnen debuts at the submission Matamoris in August, against Brazilian André Galvão.
