Forced to leave the middleweight title fight due to changes in the regulation of Testosterone Replacement Treatment (TRT), Vitor belfort may have once again secured the position of number one challenger in the under-84 kg category. Belfort, who last month was selected to face Chael Sonnen in a fight that ended up being cancelled, he would have received from Ultimate the guarantee that he would be the next opponent of the winner of Chris Weidman x Lyoto Machida, who will duel for the division title at UFC 175.
The information was released by Vitor's wife, Joana Prado, as reported by journalist Ariel Helwani on “UFC Tonight”, the organization's official newspaper on North American TV, this Wednesday (25). After the end of the exemptions for the use of TRT in MMA, in February this year, Belfort went through a period of readjustment to the new regulations, but is now ready to return to the Octagon. Despite Joana's confirmation, there was no official statement from Ultimate itself about the version presented or even the suggestion of a suggested date for the hypothetical fight for the title to take place.
At 37, Vitor belfort has a record of 24 wins and ten losses. Former UFC champion in the welterweight category, the Brazilian even challenged for the middleweight belt in 2011, but was defeated by his compatriot Anderson Silva, after a front kick that was marked in the recent history of the sport. Since then, Vitor has remained undefeated in the 84 kg division and secured himself as the category's main challenger, but had to postpone his dream of fighting for the title again due to the recent ban on the use of hormone replacement therapy – a treatment he was undergoing.
