Middleweight Mark Muñoz has finally resolved his future within the UFC. The American of Filipino descent, whose ccontract expired in his last fight, against Gegard Mousasi, signed a new four-fight agreement and will continue as an Ultimate athlete.
At the beginning of the week, due to his contractual uncertainty, Muñoz was removed from the official UFC rankings, in which it occupied ninth position. The fighter was defeated in three of his four fights, to Chris Weidman (knockout), Lyoto Machida (knockout) and Mousasi (submission). In the last one, in the main attraction of UFC Fight Night 41, in Berlin (Germany), he suffered a rear naked choke in the first round.
Despite the new contract, Muñoz is not expected to return to the UFC anytime soon. The American suffered a knee injury during the fight with Mousasi, which should keep him out of action for a few months.
Muñoz has been a UFC athlete since 2009, initially competing in the light heavyweight division. After a crushing defeat against Matt Hamill, he moved down to middleweight, achieving a record of eight wins and four losses in the new category.
