In 1995, the UFC had held just five events, all in the tournament format and still with the presence and hegemony of Royce gracie. At that time, the terms mixed martial arts or MMA did not yet exist and the champion Jon Jones, today the main name in Ultimate and one of the most recognized sportsmen on the planet, was just a child in kindergarten. It was in this context that, 19 years ago, the Brazilian Vitor belfort had his first professional fight. On Monday night (19), the “Fenômeno” used his official profile on Instagram to celebrate the date and ward off any chance of retirement.
“What were you doing 19 years ago? Well, I was having my first professional fight and at that time there were no rules and gloves were optional. If you think I'm about to end my career, you're wrong. I just started! I do not apologize for this, because what Jesus blesses no one can curse. Good night and I wish you double what you wish for me”, Vitor published on the social network.
At 37, Vitor belfort has a record of 24 wins and ten losses. The Rio native has played in the main MMA events, such as PRIDE, Strikeforce, Cage Rage, Affliction and UFC. Vitor comes from three consecutive victories in the octagon, over Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold e Dan Henderson, all by knockout in the first round. With this, the Brazilian qualified to compete for the middleweight belt against the champion Chris Weidman. However, due to the end of exemptions for the use of TRT, the hormone replacement treatment he was undergoing, Belfort had to give up his status as a challenger.
