The Brazilian Mauricio Shogun went through a big scare at the end of this week. The former UFC champion was yet another victim of violence in Rio de Janeiro when was robbed by four heavily armed men, one of them with a rifle.
Still shaken by the situation, Shogun revealed the drama suffered and spared no criticism of Brazil's security. According to the fighter, the country is not ready to host the football World Cup and should be concerned with other problems that haunt the population.
"I think Brazil is not ready for the World Cup. A country that hosts the World Cup has to be ready in the health area, in all areas, in fact. Brazil is actually still developing. I'm a football fanatic, I've been following it since I was little, but I would prefer the country to have good hospitals and colleges instead of having the World Cup. And there's no point in reinforcing security and putting the Army on the streets just during the tournament. The Brazilian people deserve security all year round, not just during the sporting event,” said Shogun, in an interview with the Combate channel website.
Despite saying that Brazil is dangerous in all cities, Shogun believes that Rio de Janeiro is even more problematic, as the bandits are heavily armed.
“I think the whole of Brazil is dangerous. Have to be careful. In Rio, the bandits use even heavier weapons. I was impressed when the guy pointed a rifle at me. The standard of weapons used by bandits is high. In Rio, in São Paulo, in the metropolises, the risk is actually greater”, he added.
