Even without having made any defense of the lightweight belt, Anthony Pettis is on the rise within the UFC. The organization's president, Dana White, praised the champion of the under-70 kg category and highlighted that, if the fighter manages to get rid of his most recent injuries, he has everything he needs to grow on the world stage.
“The next kid that’s going to explode if he can stay healthy is Pettis. No doubt. Pettis is tough and an incredibly talented fighter. I love his attitude, I just love everything about that boy. It’s a true honor to be able to watch him fight,” said White. “If Pettis stays healthy, I think he’ll be a huge star.”
Pettis won the title in August 2013 by submitting Benson Henderson in the first round. After that, he suffered a knee injury, which forced him to undergo surgery and a long period of physiotherapy. His return should take place on December 27th, against Gilbert Melendez.
