Jon Jones was involved in some controversies during his most recent title defense, held at UFC 172, against Glover Teixeira. The light heavyweight champion even exchanged barbs with Chuck Liddell, former champion of the category and current member of Hall of Fame of the UFC.

Liddell, one of Teixeira's mentors, bet on the Brazilian to win in combat, which ended up not happening. At the time, Jones responded to the statement challenging the veteran to a superfight. After UFC 172, “Bones” posted, in your Instagram a photo of Liddell with a provocative caption: “Saying all that nonsense before the fight… Are you mad, brother?”

In an interview with the “FightHub TV” channel, John Hackleman, coach of Liddell and Teixeira, responded to the provocations. “I don't know, maybe it's your manager or someone in your circle trying to add fuel to the fire or something, but that's a stupid attitude. If he knows this, don't be an asshole to do these things. Delete the photos, show a little more respect and treat this matter like a martial artist”, commented the trainer.

Another controversy in which Jones was involved concerns the eye poke given by the champion to Teixeira, something that has already been seen in his previous fights. Hackleman, however, does not see the champion's fault in what happened. “The finger in the eye, I think the glove is to blame. There are times when this is blatant, but I wouldn't call it Jon Jones of a dirty fighter because of that last fight”, he stated.
