When you won Mauritius Shogun at UFC Natal, at the end of March, Dan Henderson stated that I intended to take some time away from the fights to rest. However, the MMA community was surprised by the announcement that the veteran will return to action in May, when he will face Daniel Cormier in the co-main event of UFC 173.

In an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast, Henderson explained why he returned so soon. “I was hoping to fight in July, but things happened and for some reason they moved it forward to May. It's the fastest way to fight for the title, and no matter who I fight, I want to fight for the belt. And that’s what DC is, so I have to beat it anyway,” he explained.

Henderson admitted that he feared the chance of being caught in the doping test for the fight in May, since, until March, he used testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which is now prohibited in MMA. “Obviously I was worried. I want to make sure I don't test positive, because they changed the rules and put me in a fight very quickly. But everything is as expected and they are happy with my test results, so here we go,” he said.

To beat the undefeated Cormier, Henderson says there are no secrets. “ Punch him and overcome him in wrestling. It's something simple. He has a similar style to me and he's a tough guy, but I feel like I have more experience,” he commented.
